Manfred Rommel's letter sold at auction

Manfred Rommel in the museum

On December 30, 2012, an important two-page document describing the actual circumstances of the death of Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, the commander of the Afrika Korps, was sold at auction in Marlow in the south of Buckinghamshire.

This document is a letter written on April 27, 1945 by the 15-year-old son of Rommel Manfred, with a frank story about the last minutes of his father's life. The letter was recently discovered among documents of the military collection belonging to the officer of the British army, Captain Noel Chavasse, adjutant of the British Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery.

It is a fact that Montgomery personally requested a copy of this document in English, because, despite the fact that Rommel was his opponent, he respected the Desert Fox. The daughter of Noel Chavasse sold her father's entire collection of documents for £ 10,500.
